Burial
« on: Wednesday 23 October 13 22:23 BST (UK) »
My John Grant, born 1860, died in Todhillock Ord Parish of Banff in 1931. We have just returned from a visit to the area but couldn't find any gravestones in the various burial grounds we looked in. Could anyone suggest where he might have been buried, please. We will be returning to the same area next year. His wife , Ann, died in the same parish in 1924 so presumably would be buried in the same place. I would be grateful for any information. Thank you.
Susan

Have you tried http://libindx.moray.gov.uk/? I did have a look but nothing for John but  Ann's may be recorded under her maiden name.

A possibility would be to look in the Banffshire Journal for a funeral notice.

Unless there is a newspaper notice in a newspaper which has been indexed, they won't be in LIBINDX because Ord is not in the current version of Moray, and LIBINDX only covers MIs in this area, not the whole of Banffshire.

Try the Aberdeen and North-East Scotland Family History Society's MI index at http://www.anesfhs.org.uk/databank/miindex/miindex.php

If you can't find them there you are, unfortunately, stuck with having to contact Aberdeenshire Council, who hold the burial records. They charge a hefty fee to consult the burial books. See http://www.aberdeenshire.gov.uk/registrars/burial_grounds.asp
Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.

Thank you to all who responded to my query about burials in Banffshire. I have not had any luck so far but will keep digging until I can revisit the area next year.
