Rashiehill Farm, Fintry/Kippen
« on: Thursday 06 March 14 19:58 GMT (UK) »
I'm trying to find out some information about Rashiehil Farm which is between Kippen and Fintry. My mum and her parents lived there sometime between 1919-1930. I would like to find out exactly when they farmed there. I've looked at Valuation roll for 1920 but no luck. Their name was Colquhoun and I think they rented the farm from Ross's Dairies. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

I'm still hoping that someone can help me to find out when my Mum and her parents lived at Rashiehill Farm. Can anyone suggest how I could find out when they lived there? I contacted Balfron library who were going to pass my inquiry on to the local heritage group but as yet I haven't heard back from them. Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you.

I'm not sure if this is the same place but I had  some family living at a Rashiehill Farm, Slamman, Stirling. There is some information about this area in the 1840's-1850's at edina.ac.uk. No need to sign in. Go down to"browse scanned pages". Click on there and then enter the parish. It will give you information on the crops grown in this area but maybe not specifically Rashiehill Farm.
Hope this was helpful, Nan

According to Ancestry ......

At the time of the 1901 Census, Living at Rashiehill, Balfron Parish, Stirlingshire

Samuel McQueen, age 21, Farmer, born Thornhill
Janet McQueen, age 68, Farmer’s Wife, born ‘Kippax’ (Kippen?)
Jeanie McQueen, age 29, Daughter, Servant, born ‘Kippax’
James Rutherford, age 19, Ploughman, born Glasgow

Janet is listed as Samuel’s wife, but obviously there’s something wrong somewhere – it’s more likely that Janet was his mother.

1901 Census, Living at Rashiehill Farm, Slamannan, Stirlingshire were the Graham Family headed by David Graham, Farmer.

Thank you for your replies. The Rashiehill Farm I'm interested in is the one near Fintry/Kippen/Balfron area rather than the one at Slamannan. The farm is on the road between Kippen and Fintry. I know my Mum and her parents lived there sometime between 1919-1930's and I'm hoping to find out exactly when they farmed there but I don't know where I can find out that information.

Searching the 1920 Valuation Roll might be a good option? (Scotland's People).

National Archives Scotland has an index for Ross's Dairies records 1911 - 1980, but doesn't say where the records are actually located. Elsewhere suggests they might be held at Glasgow City Archives, so perhaps worth asking via the Mitchell Library:

Just a thought, when you contacted the library at Balfron, did you ask if they held any local trade directories from the 1920s? Most libraries would be willing to do a quick check of same for someone who can't get to the area to check in person. If you didn't ask, might be worth getting back to them or contacting the heritage group directly:
