Northern Anglers, Chester Centre, Victory Cup, 1919.
« on: Thursday 26 June 14 19:27 BST (UK) »
This week I have been given a printed document which states:
Sir,
The Committee wish to tender to you their sincere thanks for your kind and generous subscription to the above, and have in pleasure in handing you a list of all subscribers.
Yours respectfully, A. E. FROGGATT, Secretary
(My grandfather Alfred Ernest Froggatt)
At the top of the list of Subscribers is:
Sir Owen Philipps, M.P. who gave a subscription of £3 3s 0d.
In total there is a total list of 25 subscribers with subscriptions ranging from £3 3s 0d to 2s 6d.

I have found an article from the Cheshire Observer dated 6th September 1919, Page 8 headed:
Northern Anglers' Association: Chester Centre
A smoking concert was held at the Red House on Saturday......prizes presented to anglers of H.M. Forces who had been successful in the match set apart for them......

Is anyone able to give me any further information re the Northern Anglers' Association: Chester Centre please?  Do you know what a Smoking Concert is? I have already researched Sir Owen Philipps, M.P.
Thank you for your interest.

Hello marthaannie,

The Cheshire Record Office will no doubt have some literature on the Northern Anglers' Association: Chester Centre. I suggest you contact them to see what they can provide:

Hello Jo Harding
The Cheshire Record Office is where I located the article in the Cheshire Observer dated 1919.
Hopefully, I might find another article dated either 1918 or 1920 :)
I am a regular visitor to Duke Street and will certainly ask the Archivist on my next visit if they have any records held there.
Thank you for your interest.
