Thanks Barbara,
It is just the place names I am trying to sort out just now. This family lived in various places in Roxburgh but one in particular that I can't seem to find is SheeplawCross in Cavers. Would this be a farm name?

Not heard of that one!  But we have a few old maps and of course the trees you were talking about. What year are we talking about here?  I can have a look at the archives tomorrow just before I start packing up boxes for our move into the centre of Galashiels.

This Elliot family was recorded as being at Sheeplawcross between 1836 and 1845. In 1833, they were at Orchard Cottage. Found these place names on baptisms of the children performed by the Rev. James Strachan, minister of Cavers. Thanks for your help. It sounds like you will be busy with moving locations!

Hi Linda,

Seems to be Shiplaw Cross in the census and on Margaret's gravestone.  On this map in 1864 it is Sheeplaw Corse and just below Birneyknowe by Cavers

another map from around the same time has it as Chapel O' Cross.
