Mary Cassidy
« on: Friday 09 August 13 10:04 BST (UK) »
Hello,

Recently (thanks to a rootschat member) discovered the maiden name of my great grandmother which nobody in the family knew and this is what was found. In fact not much is known about her.

A marriage Samuel Alexander / Mary Cassidy 1916 Govan Lanark

Also a death Mary Alexander(other surname Cassidy) 1929 Lanark , born c1894.

Since then I have been looking for more information.

My problem is finding out where Mary Cassidy was born. I been looking on Scotlandspeople.com and I am losing the battle.

Any help much appreciated,

Fran

Hi

Do you have copies of the marriage/death certificates as they could give more information on her parents

The details on the marriage certificate are essential: it will say how old she was and who her parents were. You can then look for her in the census.

The 1901 census has six girls named Mary Cassidy in Govan who'd be at the usual age for marriage in 1916, plus lots of others of that name in neighbouring parishes. Without the information from her marriage certificate it's impossible to tell which one she might be.
AYRSHIRE - Strachan, McCrae, Haddow, Haggerty, Neilson, Alexander
ABERDEENSHIRE (Cruden and Longside) - Fraser, Hay, Logan, Hutcheon or Hutchison, Sangster
YORKSHIRE (Worsbrough) - Green, Oxley, Firth, Cox, Rock
YORKSHIRE (Royston and Carlton) - Senior, Simpson, Roydhouse, Hattersley

What were her parents names?

Were they shown as deceased on her marriage/death certificates?

Sorry, it's taken me so long but I have the marriage certificate.

Her parents are Patrick Cassidy and Annie Cassidy,M.S.Stafford. She was 21 on the 31st of July 1916 when they married. I believe she had a brother George Cassidy who was a witness at the wedding.
