Trying to find someone...
« on: Tuesday 28 January 14 23:51 GMT (UK) »
Trying to find a Charles George Channing in the 1911 census Born in Newport, Monmouthshire 1884.

He married in 1905 to Laura Youngson, who died in 1911, but can't find Charles in 1911, he would be shown as a widower as she died in the first quarter.

He is still in Wales because he died there in 1966.

Can anyone help me find him in the 1911 census thanks :)
Baldwin (Newport, Wales)
Baker (Sark, CI)
Ducellier (Guernsey & France)

No, we aren't allowed to do 1911 census lookups for England/Wales but there's a topic for search hints here-

Freebmd shows several Channing births in Monmouth between 1905-1911.  If you know the names of any child born before 1911 - you could use that as a search criteria

Thanks

I do think that they likely to be mistranscribed, is there anything I can type in the surname that it will accept?

You are sometimes better putting less info rather than more or using the wildcard facility (eg)

Christian name only search ......cha** born Monmouth**  1884 plus or minus 5yrs or also use geo** in case he used his middle name

Surname only search .... c*an*in* then as above  This is to cover the possibility of some of the letters in his surname being mistranscribed

If you have a childs name - it's often better to use that as your search criteria

What was his occupation?  If he was a seaman that may be why you can't find him

There is a birth for Charles George Channing (without the g on the end)

Newport Jun 1884 11a 217

As well as the children..and his occupation (what was on his marriage cert for example)

Do you know what he did after 1911? Did he remarry? That might suggest another location to search. Perhaps he went abroad?

Milly
McBride (Monaghan, Manchester), Derbyshire (Bollington,Cheshire), Knight (Newcastle,Staffs), Smith (Chorley, Lancs & Ireland), Tipladay (Manchester & Yorkshire) ,Steadman (Madeley,Shropshire), Steele (Manchester,Glasgow), Parkinson (Wigan, Lancashire), Lovatt, Cornes & Turner (Staffs) Stott (Oldham, Lancs). All ended up Ardwick, Manchester
