Abiathar Evans born 1841- Bedwellty
« on: Sunday 31 October 10 13:25 GMT (UK) »
Hi
I have just discovered that my Great Great Great Grandfather had been married previous than to my Great Great Grandmother.  His name is Thomas Evans and was born about 1810/1811 in Llangynidr, Breconshire.  I cannot find the name of who he married but they had a son called Abiathar Evans in abt 1841.  He then marries again in abt 1849 ( Elizabeth John) and they go on to have another family (William, Treharne, Hannah,(my great great grandmother)and Esther) It mentions on the 1861 census that Abiathar was born in Bedwellty .... I cannot find a birth record for Abiathar - it may just be that his name was incorrectly recorded anyone any ideas how I go about finding the record, and also who Abiathars mother was ??? With a name like Evans all suggestions would be gratefully received
Thanks

In the 1841 census Abiathar is with his father and mother Margaret.

This is the family in Abergavenny

Thomas 30  Collier
Margaret Evans 30
Hannah Evans 5
Anne Evans 10
Abeer Evans 3 (not sure correct spelling)
William Evans 2
Abiathar Evans 1

Children all born in County.

I did wonder if this family was the right one, but I thought on that record Thomas wasnt from Breconshire, and also not sure if there was any other family other than Abiathar - maybe I will explore this possibility again

the death is definately him - he is buried at Treorchy cemetery - Thomas and Elizabeth were later buried in same grave ..... but I would love to find parish record for him which would show his mother

Treharne Evans relative

Hi eac61,
I just googled and found this rootschat and a few of your comments on Treharne Evans.  I am descended from him in Australia.  I have a lot of info on him and brother William who came togther to Aust on the same ship (I found his birth is illegitmate, so he's a half brother).
I have already found his parents Thomas and Elizabeth John.  Also the previous marriage to Margaret.  I also used Aviathir as the key to track them in the Censuses, but also couldnt find his birth until this rootchat thread.  Spelt wrong it seems.
Ancestry.com trees have Thomas's parents wrongly as James and Jane?, but the Census shows them as Richard, and his grand mother Hannah.
I couldn't find Treharne's birth registered anywhere in the UK.  I had a person trawl the Eglwysilan, Glamorgan churches for a christening but to no avail, any luck there?
Also Thomas's nephew (by sister Mary) Richard Ungoed was in Lambton, Newcastle , Aust as well.
So first contact here, hope we can help each other.  Scott in Aust.

Hi
I'm looking for descendants of Treharne Evans, especially any connected to his son Richard Morgan Evans who died in NSW, Australia in 1933. As R M Evans & Sons, this family were undertakers/funeral directors in Wallsend NSW.
Regards,
Joyford

Hi Scott

I am new to Rootschat and so can't send a personal message - actually I'm havely trouble working out how to use the forum!

You will be disappointed to learn that I am not a descendant but I am very interested in the family. I belong to a family history group and we are transcribing the R M Evans Funeral Directors records and we are looking for descendants to add some family history. Would you be interested in helping? I am in the Lake Macquarie area.

Regards
Joyford
