Newspapers Newport 1844
« on: Wednesday 06 February 13 11:49 GMT (UK) »
I've just discovered that my ggg grandfather Alexander Linton, was lost at sea. His ship, The Three Sisters, sailing from Plymouth to Newport, sank on May 7th 1844, according to a notice in the Times. It appears the wreck was raised up to the wharf at Newport, May 16th. so I imagine there might be a report in the local papers about it. I wondered if anyone could help with this or suggest ways forward.

Thank you

kind regards
Judith

There's a short article in the Northern Star Saturday 25 May 1844 page 5 which gives some details of him and the family.  I saw it on the British Newpaper Archive which is a subscription site.  You can also search the Northern Star on the Nineteenth-Century Serials Edition website, but I find it harder to find specific items there.

Thank you so much everyone, for your offers of help. I have received the obituary from another source, but appreciate very much your kindness.

I would be enormously grateful for a look up of the Monmouth Merlin, as there appears to be nothing else online which will help.

Thank you again,

kind regards

Hi Judith,
I spent a few hours this morning looking over the Monmouthshire Merlin from the end of April until end of June and could see no mention of the Three Sisters/Alexander Linton,I will have another look sometime next week and see what I can find.
