Timothy Fitzpatrick and Catherine Power marriage Mountrath
« on: Friday 24 October 14 13:04 BST (UK) »
Hello

My ancestor William Fitzpatrick was baptised on 1st September 1845 at Mountrath, County Laois

His parents were Timothy Fitzpatrick and Catherine Power.

Looking further into the records, William had several silbings

Thomas 1840
Mary 1838
Judith 1842

When and where did Timothy and Catherine marry? Looking through roots ireland, I cannot find anything, but marriage records in Mountrath date back to 1827.

Perhaps they never married

Any help will be appreciated

my thanks

Hi sirsimon, I'm not sure if you're still looking for this information.  I haven't checked the Laois Rootschat page in a while!
I have found a marriage of Tim Fitzpatrick and Catherine Pound who were married on 10 July 1837. They were from Ringstown Mountrath and witnesses were John Baker and Margaret Brennan.  I've only checked for 1837 as their first child seems to have been born in 1838.
This of course may not be them but in searching for an Ann Power from the Mountrath area I've found it also written as Powell and Powel.
These parish records are digitised on a well-known genealogical website if you have access to that.

thanks

It very much could be them, though Catherine's maiden name was power on her childrens baptisms, not Pound. Possible spelling error.

thank you

Saw it just earlier

Its going to be difficult finding their death dates, as their baptisms no longer exist, earliest records go back to 1824, Timothy and Catherine were born between 1800 and 1820.

Their son married in 1878 in Cork Cathedral, he was a RIC policeman.

Hi guys

Found Timothy's death certificate.

Looking at the locations of the baptisms and the fact that they resided in County Laois from 1837 to 1867, I narrowed my search down to the possible death records for Timothy Fitzpatrick in Laois. There were several possibilities, basing it on the fact he would not have been born before 1810 and no later than 1820.

He died in 1890 aged 80 at Derrylusk in Mountmellick, which is one of the baptism locations for one of his children. The informant is Timothy Fitzpatrick, whom I think is recorded as his son. He is given the occupation of farmer and died of bronchitis. He is a widower by 1890, meaning Catherine must have died between 1850 and 1890
