The information you have from FindMyPast should be an exact copy of the documentation held at Kew.
Details of his demise should be contained within the ships logbook, however this seems to have been lost or destroyed and basically would give the same details as what is contained in BT334/46. You may wish to take a look at the relevent crew agreement of DEVONA official number 104378. Details of apprentices will be minimal but may tell you his last address and next of kin.
It can be obtained here.

Cost of research $40 Canadian. Is it worth it? your call.
Some details of the ship
built by Charles Connell & Company Scotstoun, official number 104738 in 1896
Yard No 230
Engines by Dunsmuir & Jackson

Tonnage: 3779 grt
Length: 365 feet
Breadth: 45 feet
Draught: 18.8 feet
Owned in 1910 by Cairn Line  (Cairns, Noble), Newcastle
There are some records of Merchant Navy apprentices at TNA Kew in the series BT150 Index 1824-1953 and Indentures1845-1950 (only every 5th year preserved) in BT151
