Pam, i have had this reply from leicester library:

With reference to your enquiry about William Moss and Lloyd's bank: there is some information in our resources about the building, but no mention of the construction company - details below.
1. Taylor, Michael. The quality of Leicester. Leicester City Council, 1993.This book contains a short description of the building on p135, referring to the design by Chatwin and Son of Birmingham.
2. Community History Newsletter Issue 53, Summer 2006. Published by Community History (part of Leicester Libraries). This issue features quite a detailed (3 pages) article about the building by Graham Hulme, entitled "From banqueting house to banking hall" - but does not mention the construction company.
3. Wrights Directory of Leicestershire and Rutland 1900 lists a W. Moss and Son, Builders and Contractors, at 39 Baxter gate in Loughborough.
All of the above are available for reference at the Learning and Information Library in Bishop Street, Leicester.
Two other potential sources of information are:
Loughborough Library - which has an extensive local history collection.
Leicestershire Records Office - opening hours and contact details are on their website:

Hi

My uncle runs a building company called Walter Moss in Coalville, they used to build civic buildings such as the swimming pool and Clock Tower in Coalville. He isn't Walter Moss but the man who set it up was! Wonder if it's any relation to your William?

Hello

I have just chanced on this site by accident as my name came up. I am William George Moss (b.1957) son of Nicholas Charles Moss (b. 1912, d. 1999). My father was the last chairman of William Moss & Sons before it was bought out by Frech Kier in the late 1980's. Dad worked for Wm.Moss for 51 years and started work digging trenches for bricklayers even though his Uncles (Charles and  Alan Moss) were joint Chariman. Dad once told me that I was the great-great-great-great-grandson of the original founder -I have never checked this out so can't vouch for it. I have other info on william Moss & Sons Mosses if anyone is interested

Hi Willmoss
The information I'm looking for is anything to do with the double folding doors on the Lloyds bank on High Street, Leicester. I've been led to believe that my great uncle Reuben Springthorpe made them while working for William Moss. Incidentally, after talking to Reuben's grandson Nick, who's father (Leonard Springthorpe) also worked for William Moss, he tells me he was named after Nicholas Moss.
