Hi

There is this marriage:

Coleorton   (near Worthington)
30-Oct 1797   By Banns
Joseph Mee OTP and Hannah Towe OTP

Perhaps your Joseph was born a tad earlier than 1784?

Good luck with your research.

TB

Hi TB,

Looked at this marriage, according to Ancestry trees this Joseph Mee is earlier, b 1756 Packington, and Hannah b abt1775 Cleorton which fits better with date of marriage

My Josephs birth dates are derived from Baptism in 1783,  and Census 1851 equates to 1784.

So still looking

Hi Chris

Only just seen this post.  I have connections with the Mee family of Walton on the Wolds.
My 4 x gt grandparents were William Mee & Rebecca Cross who married at Walton in 1783. Not sure if there is a connection.  I have hit a brickwall with William who was born c 1745 ish

Hi Carol,
Not sure if this helps, there is an ancestry tree "Intms family" which has William Mee b 1745 Walton, son of Robert Mee and Pleasant Mountney.
This William Mee married Anne Bryans 1765 Walton but she is recorded as died 1781
The tree then records a 1783 marriage to Rebecca Phipps (Widow) 1783 but to William Mee son of previous william Mee & Anne Bryans.  This may be incorrect and the marriage is a remarriage of the original 1745 William Mee    ???
What do you think ?
Back to my original query I do think there is a link between Walton on the wolds Mees and Worthington Mees where my descendants come from. There are ocaissional appearances of Worthington born Mees in Walton, and marriages between the 2 villages (For Mees and Frearsons)

Hi Chris

Thanks for information.  I'm not a member of Ancestry at the moment, so can't see that tree, but a lot seems to make sense.  I have recorded a couple of Pleasant Mee's around that area, so looks like there could be a connection.
I am off to Leicester Records Office one day this week to look at the original records of Walton, so hopefully should confirm.
I have found a few burials for Mee's at Walton

Susannah Mee 21 Mar 1860 aged 87
Joseph Mee 24 Dec 1869 aged 88
William Mee 21 Mar 1831 aged 86
Rebecca Mee 18 Dec 1836 aged 86

I will see if I can view that tree on the Mundia site.

Thanks
Carol

Hi Carol,
The Walton on th Wolds burials you quote here are Joseph and Susannah, husband and wife in my tree, Joseph being born in Worthington, plus your couple
It looks more like there is only one William Mee, remarried  The afore mentioned ancestry tree owner has also made a comment to that effect in 2010
Other info in that tree was William Mee 1745`s parents
Robert Mee 1715  Barrow on Soar  died 1769 burial Walton 3 Dec
Pleasant Mountney buried Walton 30 June 1790 having died in Burton on the Wolds (See below)
Their marriage 10 Oct 1733 Walton
Then you probably have 5 Children of William & Rebecca

It then comes back to my own tree where I have Pleasant Mountney, she is sister of my 7th Great Grandfather John Mountney, (They were born Burton on the Wolds},, so we must be distant cousins
Lots more prior to that on the Mountneys, still confirming some but various trees go back a further 7 or 8 generations
If you want to pursue further PM me
