Duncan and Scott families, Fife
« on: Wednesday 15 August 12 17:39 BST (UK) »
Seeking family of George Duncan and Janet Scott, Cupar, Fife

George (circa 1761 to 1851) Duncan married Janet Scott.  They had two children that I know of:  son George born 1784 and daughter Janet born 1797, but given the gap between their births I have to assume there were others.

Father George was a sawyer and the family lived in Springfield, Cupar.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Hello,

Just found this post - bit late . . . .

I am also wanting to know more of this family - I found one David Duncan born to George and Janet Scot in Springfield 1791 - I wonder if this is the same family?    Certainly looks like it -

I have not been able to find out any more about the family - It is the David I am seeking  - trying to post the link to a thread I had going some time ago,  but it isn't happening. :-\

I've just had another look at that family and have found the following all born to George and Janet in Springfield, Cupar

George b 1785,
Anne    b 1787
Andrew b 1789
David   b 1791
Robert  b 1794

On the search I did which went up to 1800, there was not a Janet mentioned.   :-\

I've not been able to find even this much before -

Hi there,

Pretty sure we are working on the same family.  Janet's parents names were listed on her death certificate.

This may be the birth of George Duncan (spouse of Janet Scott),  but I have to determine for sure:

https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/XYZZ-WHD
Name: George Duncan
Gender: Male
Baptism/Christening Date: 03 May 1761
Baptism/Christening Place: MONIMAIL,FIFE,SCOTLAND
Father's Name: Andrew Duncan
Mother's Name: Christian Chapman

Our George b  circa 1761 married Janet Scott b circa 1760 in Fife.
I had found two children for them born in Cupar:
1)    George Duncan b circa 1784 (Was living with sister Janet and her husband James Watson in 1861 census which was how I knew his name, dob and occupation.)
2)   Janet Duncan

]b circa 1797 (I have Janet’s death certificate which lists her parents)

Janet Duncan married James Watson on 18 Nov 1820 in Cupar, Fife and they had:
1)   Janet- presumably named after mum and grandmother
2)   George- presumably named after both grandfathers
3)   James- named after his father
4)   Andrew- possibly named after gr grandfather if the above Andrew Duncan and Christian Chapman shown above are George's correct parents
5)   John
6)   David
7)   Peter

Thanks, Eileen

Also, wonder if Janet Duncan and James Watson' son David is named after Janet's brother David if this is the same family.

Cheers!

How will we ever prove these things!!    ;) ;)

It is the David and where he went to which particularly interests me!    ;D ;D
