Hi Anne
I have all three of these names in my tree.
My 4x great grandmother was Agnes Taylor, born 1749 in Birsay, daughter of James Taylor. Agnes married William Whitelaw in 1780.
My 3x great grandmother was Elizabeth(Betsy)Linklater. Her father was Cesar Linklater, originally from Harray but settled in Birsay. One of Betsy' sisters married a Harvey .
There are a few other connections aswell!!

I can't see a connection as yet with your names but will check my info.

I have my Alexander TAYLOR born in Gerraquay, Birsay in 1741 and marrying in 1787 to Marion CAPTAIN. I have James in my descendants of Alexander, also William.
I think there will be a connection.
I cannot find my previous research at the moment but I believe James and Alexander came up a few times prior to 1741.
