Townsend family - Cork and Kent

We are researching the Townsend family from Kent. Richard Townsend (1792-1856) was a parish beadle born in Otford Kent. We've traced his ancestors to JOhn Townsend (c1675-1755) also from Kent. The family provided a number of butlers/footmen etc for the London upper classes.

There are a couple of family trees online linking our Townsends with an aristocratic Irish branch who originated from Cork, Ireland. I've found a couple of mistakes in this research - the rich Townsends had a son Richard born about the same time as our Richard, However, I do wonder if there is a family connection here.

Does anyone know of any research linking the Cork Townsends with our Kent family? Any info - even if only to squash our dreams(!!) will be gratefully received.
