Hi Reiver,

I can see Richard in some censuses but not others.
1861 he us with mother Mary and siblings and you already have his baptism.
Do you have his father, Richard anywhere?

There is also a burial  in 1861 for a baby Thomas to Richard and Mary.
There is a likely birth registration on Lancashire BMD -1860 and Free BMD Chorlton 1860.

Did your Richard marry Elizabeth Ann Hindle? His father is named as Richard Morton, deceased, Club Steward. I can give you full details if you need them.

Heywood

I think so Heywood ...the only one I could find and they married at St Gabriel , Hulme ..
on lancsbmd
so I presume the next step is Richard and Marys marriage ??...how old is the oldest child in the 1861 census ??

Richard and Mary are in 1851 with older children.
Probable marriage 1841 Richard Morton and Mary Hibbert.

There is a Richard born 1818, Manchester, as a lodger in Cumberworth, Huddersfield.

1881 has a Richard Morton, born abt 1818 who is a club steward. He has a wife Mary Ann and children William 16 yrs; Albert 14 yrs and Arthur 10 yrs.
Mary Ann is born Yorkshire.

She is a widow in 1891 so it fits.

Well Reiver, whilst of course we look for original records that will confirm what is pretty obvious, from looking at Census entries its obvious that his parents were another Richard given as born in Manchester in c 1818 and his wife Mary(Ann) given as born in Manchester in c 1823.

Whilst Richard junior is with mother Mary in 1861,Richard is working away and given as a Lodger in Yorkshire.Richard and Mary are together in 1881 and perhaps surprisingly clearly in 1851!Its worth noting a son James aged three in 1851!

A probable marriage is one at Manchester Cathedral on 12/12/1841 between a Richard Morton and a Mary Hibbert.

Looking again it appears that the Mary(Hibbert) dies in 1862 aged 39 in Hulme and that the Mary Ann in 1881 is Richard's second wife a Mary Ann Slater(Wilkinson) who he married in Manchester Cathedral on 13/09/1863.Richard's father as in 1841 is given as a Thomas Morton a Fustion Cutter.
