Cartes de Visite Album, Page 48
« on: Wednesday 23 April 14 09:40 BST (UK) »
My grandmother's grandmother was Martha Hammond Thornewill (of Burton-o[-Trent) nee Wright (of Eyam).  I have her album of some 150 Cartes de Visite, with not very many of them identified.    I have scanned the empty pages, and front & back of each card.

Can you tell me what date each of these is from, please?  That will help me to establish the year of birth, which just might enable me to identify the subject !  Information about the Studio would be of interest, too.

Page 48 contains a man, a man and a woman - these are the owner of the album and her son, I believe - a man, and a lad.

I'm posting the lo-res versions, so please don't bother to try to improve them.

I am gathering the comments to store in a file alongside the pictures, and, when finished, it will be quite a task to analyse them all and draw deductions as to the identity of some currently unknown.

For Page 47, see

which also contain links to the previous pages.

48A is a young man whom we have seen before - I think ? - as 09B and 31A.

Do you think these three pix are of the same man ?  And what age is he in each ?

The Rev. Charles was the eldest son of the owner of the album, born 14 April 1841.  Obviously... he went into the Church, and had no interest in "the family business", which had been going for 200 years.  After her husband died in 1858, she ran the business with his partner, until her second son took over.

48B is Martha Hammond Thornewill nee Wright and her son Robert.  We have seen both before, her as 34D and him as 09D.  I think !

What ages are they in the lower pic?  They were born in 1806 and 1843.  i.e. when was the pic taken?

... and 48D is of her youngest son Arthur, born 1853.  At least, I deduce it's him, as he's on the same page as his brothers and his Mum.  His father died in 1858, and we have no CdV of him.

How old is the lad?  i.e. when was the pic taken?
