Hi all

Does anyone know where the nearest church to Camghouran would have been in the late 1700/early 1800s please?

Camghouran (St Micheal's) Fortingall has its own burial ground.

Do you want us to look up any Monument Inscriptions?

Hi Throth

That is really kind of you.

I have discovered that my 5x gt grandfather Duncan Cameron was born there tho he married and died in Paisley which is where I hail from. However I'd really like to know what became of his parents Alexander and (K)Catherine (nee Cameron) as well as trying to get further back if possible.

Duncan was born in 1780 and I have found a marriage for Alexander and Catherine in 1775 tho I have also found two children with those parents born in Camghouran in 1770 and 1773.

I don't know the area other than a trip to Pitlochry a very long time ago other than I know Camghouran isn;t the biggest of places but I know the Camerons are a prominent name.

I haven't got any more info at the moment as have just found them the other day so if you have MIs that would be fab!

Suggestions -

"A Highland Parish" by Alex Stewart a good read even if there is no additional material.

Secondly, have you looked at the 'Statistics of the Annexed Estates 1755 - 56' ?
It mentions Alex Cameron jnr in Easter Camaghuran.
They listed whole families sometimes - you might be lucky.

Hi Troth

Many thanks. Will certainly have a read as finding names notwithstanding I like many of us searching for our ancestors like to know a bit about the place, the times they lived in etc.

I knew there had to be Highland blood somewhere in my tree (12/16ths with gt gts are Irish tho I think a few certainly were originally Scottish but yet to be proven).
