John LANE
« on: Thursday 08 May 14 11:14 BST (UK) »
Hi

I'm trying to find out about John Lane, who I believe was born in Willington in Derbyshire around about 1832-34. I would love to know his date of birth.

I would also be interested to know anything with regard to his parents, who I thin are Thomas and Ann(e) Lane. I have no idea of Ann(e)'s maiden name.

Many thanks

Wonderful prompt service. I don't suppose that the baptism record gives an actual date of birth? Where could I find an image of the baptism?

Moreover, I don't suppose you know when Thomas and Anne were born and/or died? Once again images would be great.

I assume you have his baptism?
John Lane
baptised 6 Jan 1833 Willington Parish Derbys
parents Thomas & Ann

There is a tree on An*****y which has John the son of Thomas Lane & Ann Johnson
The same tree also give Thomas y.o.b as 1804 death 1846
Tree not well sourced imo

It seems John gave his son the middle name of Gaskin- so it seems more likely john used his mother's maiden name (as Derek found in the marriage)

Also Thomas was still living at the time of the 1861 census

Do you have 1841/51/61 census -or do you require them?

I'm trying to avoid the poorly sourced trees that litter An***y, though they sometimes give useful clues. I'm definitely leaning towards his mother being Ann Gaskin, especially if that was used as a middle name.

Thanks for the offer, but I have access to the 1841/51/61 census.

Have looked at the said Tree..a great example ofpeople nicking trees without checking them out, thus perpetuating mistakes.......I have the Willingtn Parish records..there is no record of a weddng for JOHN LANE other than to Ann GASKIN..who indeed was baptised at Willington 12.04.1804..daughter of William and Sarah...........Suz beat me to it!
They weren't very happy bunnies..........Thomas junior was born in 1835 and died in infancy..and they had another Thomas in 1846.
