Hazzard/Hassard & Fraser
« on: Friday 26 February 10 00:01 GMT (UK) »
I am trying to locate a marriage in Co Fermanagh of Robert Fraser and Ann Hazzard/Hassard.  Unfortunately I have been unable to find details of a townland or parish from Griffth Valuations or death certificates of the family. Robert Fraser was born abt 1810 in Co F( I think) and Ann Hazzard was born abt 1808 also co F. Ann was the daughter of Jason H , no details for her mother. I have no details re Robert's parents. They were married in Co F and had their first three children there. The children were William abt 1829, Joseph abt 1831 and Jason abt 1834.  They then moved to Preston in abt 1835 then Windle, Lancashire where they had more children: Robert, James, George Sarah and Sarah Ann.  I have found them on 1841 census and 1851 census and have followed most of the family in Aust (see other RC threads).

I am hoping someone with knowledge or access to Co F parish records may be able to find their marriage, possible abt 1828, and the baptisms of their first 3 children and the location.

Looking at the Griffth Valuations abt 1862 (almost 30 yrs after they left) I can see both Hazzard/Hassards & Frasers in Cleenish, Devenish and Enniskillen parishes.

Any help would be much appreciated.

To save anyone from wasting time by duplicating searches already done here's a link to topic on Australian board:
www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,432658.0.html

There's a Jason Hassard died 7 Oct.1976 of Grouse Lodge, Co. Donegal (see www.proni.gov.uk Will Extracts- probate granted to son Nixon Hassard of Grouse Lodge, Pettigo). This Jason Hassard was age 94 when he died so born c1782.
Pettigo is on the Fermanagh/Donegal border (the Fermanagh portion is officially Tullyhommon).

Thanks Aghadowey for your response.  I have looked at both your suggestions. Nothing to provide the link required yet.  Have noted the locations as possibilities. Anniebelle.

I am looking for my great grandfather's parents and siblings. His name was William Fraser.  He was born in Fermanagh about 1831.  At least some members of his family emigrated to Australia in the 1840s-1850s and were never heard from again.   He ended up in Ontario, Canada about 1860 where he married Isabella McAlpine and had 10 children. I have not found evidence of his parents or siblings in Canada at the time. I wondered if we might have some connection to your Frasers.

Anniebelle,

In your query of 26th Oct 2010, you asked for suggestions as to where Ann Hazzard (daughter of Jason Hazzard) might have come from. I recently did some research on Hazzards in Co Cavan and in the course of that came across a couple of Jason Hazzards who lived around Swanlinbar (just beside the Fermanagh border).  Jason Hazzard’s a fairly unusual name in Ireland and so Ann might be from that family. If so, they attended Swanlinbar Church of Ireland, so perhaps that’s where Ann married. PRONI has the following records for that church:

C.I. Swanlinbar (Kilmore diocese) Baptisms, 1798-1883; marriages, 1798-1895; burials, 1799-1812, 1822-6 and 1863-83.

Here’s another Jason Hazzard from that family group in the 1901 census:

Elwyn,
Many thanks for the information.  I will attempt to source the parish records from Swanlinbar and hope for a link there.  I appreciate your posting.
