Title: Post-1858 Probate Index Lookup Please - HUTTON
Post by: ausgenjourneys on Monday 21 January 08 11:23 GMT (UK)
Hi everyone,
I'm hoping SKS who has access to the Post-1858 Probate Indexes might be able to lookup a reference for me:

John HUTTON of King St, St Peter in the East, Oxford. Died Jan 1880 aged 87.

Thanks  :)

Aillin,
Australia

Hi everyone,
Do I just need to know his date of death and place of death to apply for the Will? Or do I need a reference number? I guess If I don't need a reference number, then I already have the needed information? :)
Regards,
Aillin

There is a will for John Hutton, died 3 Jan in Oxford, date of Probate 5 Feb. You are quite right that you already have enough information, and that you do not need a reference number. However, even with this information they would still charge you for the search, even if there was no will.

So you did the smart thing in getting Rootschatters to check that there is something for you to send for (it must have taken me all of 30 seconds to look it up ;D)

Good luck, I hope it's an interesting one when you get it

Hi There

I just had a look at the transcribed wills on Oxford family history site but there is no mention of John Hutton as a testator or a witness to a will - sorry - but that doesnt mean there isn't a will

Good hunting

All the very best
