Chaplin Family Berkshire
« on: Monday 13 October 14 13:17 BST (UK) »
:P Hi this is the first attempt to try to unravel the Berkshire Chaplin's
Have managed to get back to Edward Chaplin and Hester Cock married 17th Jan 1796 at Easthampstead. Edward's father was a Thomas Chaplin - have found three Thomas's born in Berkshire who could be the one, has anyone succeeded in tracking the line further back?
Our link into the Chaplin family is via John William Chaplin born 1903 at Bangalore, India, eldest son of William Chaplin and Beatrice (Kelly) Chaplin married 9th July 1899 at Frindsbury, Kent.

The most obvious & the most likely (in my view) is Edward b.1767 in Finchampstead to Thomas & Sarah.
Not only is it only 6mls. away but there are a number of his children with the same names as his siblings & parents with their eldest son Thomas b.1796 being named after his father which is consistent with the naming patterns of that era.
Not proof of course but I can't see a will for Thomas Snr. which might have named Edward.
The NBI has an Edward dying in Easthampstead in 1857 aged 94. Age is a bit out but that's common on burials.
1851 has him in Easthampstead aged 87 b. Finchampstead which is probably him.
