one more question.

Eliza Steel, whom married James Edward Prettyman, her mother according to the census was Eliza Steel as well, born 1779 in Suffolk.

Could someone help find out more about Eliza Steel's father?

my thanks

James and Eliza's marriage Certificate (see link on reply #7) gives her fathers name as Samuel Steele

Would anyone know whom was the mother of James Edward Prettyman? It was either Sarah Berwick or Mary Ann Mills and I am not sure which one. The marriage to Eliza Steele would have given an indication of the mothers identity based on his age. However his age is given as full

The Marriage Witness at the 1851 Marriage of James Prettyman and Eliza Steel is likely her Brother.

1851 Census he is born c 1828 Yarmouth, Norfolk, married to Hannah.
Unfortunately he is not with Parents in 1841. He is a Pupil at the Childrens Hospital School in Great Yarmouth.

Marriage;
25 Feb 1849, St Nicholas, Great Yarmouth, Norfolk
Samuel STEEL, Bachelor, Mariner, Father SAMUEL Steel, Mariner
Hannah HARN, Spinster, Father MICHAEL Harn, Tallow Chandler
Witnesses, Henry S STEEL and Susan MITCHELS
(Source FreeREG)

These Christenings are on Familysearch, Southwick, Sussex, to SAML/SAMUEL and ELIZABETH Steel;
SAML, 14 July 1805
STEPHEN, 14 Jan 1810
WILLIAM, 16 Dec 1812
JAMES 3 Jan 1815

The more I look at this the more I am confused.

Samuel Steel born c 1828 is not likely to be the Son of Elizabeth Steel born c 1779, or she would be 49 when he was born , not impossible but unlikely.

1851 Census has a Elizabeth STEEL born c 1779 Clopton, Suffolk, living with her Son in Woodbridge, Suffolk
HO107/1801/619/24
Her Son is John LEOM born c 1807 Burgh, Suffolk

Now a John LOOM was Christened to ELIZABETH Loom 21 Nov 1807, Burgh, Suffolk
And a Elizabeth LOOM Married Samuel STEEL 08 Dec 1818, Bredfield, Suffolk

See my confusion!
