Fallin colliery
« on: Thursday 29 July 10 21:09 BST (UK) »
Hay yall, I am new to this page and am excited to read all the things going on in the areas I am researching for my family tree.

I am researching RYAN who would have been miners in Fallin 1920  onwards.  Has anyone any information, pictures, or anything that would be of help to me?  Thanks, Kathy

Hello Kathy,

Welcome to Rootschat!!  :)

Have a wee look here: http://www.scottishmining.co.uk/352.html

The above link will take you to the Mining Accidents page, but I'm sure if you have a good rake around the site there'll be lots more info to be found.

Anne

Thx Wilton, I got that book courtesty of the Library at Stirling, very helpful people, and it is a wealth of information about the colliery and its people from about 1905 till the present day.  Would be good reading for anyone interested in the mining communities in Scotland.  Kathy

Yes pls, Sue.  It is a lovely little book and I read it cover to cover.  My great Aunt is mentioned in the Book, Eleanor Fowler, she later became a JP in Fallin ( I think).

The family I am tracing is John Ryan, died c.1923, Mary Ryan, my g grandmother, they lived at 36C Block.  I know there was a crowd of them but havent succeeded in tracing any yet.

I will go and look at your g granddads reference in the book.

Regards, Kathy
