Did George Quinton marry twice in a month or....
« on: Tuesday 29 April 14 17:16 BST (UK) »
I can find several index references on the usual suspects FindMyPast, Genealogist, Family Search, Ancestry for the marriage of
George Quinton to Una Ruffles at Barham on 13 July 1849
and one on (I think) Ancestry) for
George Quinton to Eliza Ruffles at Bacton 19 June 1849.
I can't find that images of any are online - though I may be wrong, I can't find them to see what is going on. Can anyone help? Is it a case of banns in one parish, marriage in another and Una and Eliza are the same person or are there really 2 x George Quinton marrying girls called Ruffles a month apart? I actually need the marriage of George and Eliza.

FreeBMD shows just the one registration: George Quinton & Una Ruffles, Sep qtr 1849 Hartismere 13 627.

Perhaps as you suggest the other one was a banns entry which either misstated the intended bride's name, or has been mistranscribed?

You can order the images from familysearch  ;)

Thank you both.
AVM the Eliza marriage is on Family Search and has a different batch no. from the Una one - 1658080, Eliza 10th June: 952439 Una 13 July.
Thanks for second reply with information regarding a request to Family Search for the image. I was unable to go to the 3rd page of the form after completing the first successfully and then trying to complete the second. Which line does one enter the FHL film number on, 1st or 2nd? There was no sliding bar to indicate that one image would satisy me so I fell at the second hurdle.

The slider bar should appear at the bottom of the page I have given the link to.  The film number goes on the first one -Family history library film number.

There is a private family tree showing
Elizabeth (Una) Ruffles
(Eliza Quinton)
born 1829 Ipswich
looks as if Una and Elizabeth/Eliza are the same person

Thank you rosie. It seems I did manage to complete the form after all, though there was not a slide bar showing anywhere on the page 2 that I had a problem with. I had put the Film no. in the correct place, but i got a reply from FS saying I'd have to wait 4-6 weeks and that the link you sent me was now obsolrte and telling me a new one, link here. Thanks so much for the tip which I have just sent on to Peter Calver of "Lost Cousins" in case it is somethink which has slipped his net. His newsletters are worth joining his site for (free membership at the moment to celebrate the 10th birthday of Lost Cousins) even if no cousind were found - I found 4 and that is on the low side.

I too, think that Eliza and Una may be the same person but I won't believe it till I see both entries. I shal now ask FS on the new link, for Una's marriage record.

Thank you for the new link.  ;D  I only ordered on the 24th on that link and my acknowledgment email didn't tell me not to use that link though I seem to remember a new link being mentioned a while ago. Maybe they have finally closed the other one down.  Although they state 4-6 weeks they have been coming through before 4 weeks is up.
