« on: Saturday 22 February 14 04:24 GMT (UK) »
Hi All,

How does one go about getting WW2 military records? I am trying to help a lady find those of her father Thomas Robert Lewers NICHOLL, he was born around 1917 Armagh. she knows nothing about him so any help would be appreciated.

Than You

British military records, for those serving after 1920 (or thereabouts) are still with the MOD!

See: https://www.gov.uk/requests-for-personal-data-and-service-records

There is usually a fee of £30 - but this may be waived for next-of-kin.
See that website for details.

If he was in the British Army the widow or next of kin can apply but need to include his death certificate with application. "Subject to the payment of an administration fee of £30 per record and provision of a death certificate (except where death was in service), certain information can be provided from the records of service of Service personnel on request " (full details on link KGarrad posted)

Thank you aghadowey, the children of Thomas Robert NICHOLL don't know a great deal about him due to their mother leaving him and taking the children with her they never heard of him again so they are really no help at all.

The only thing they know is he was in the army and was born in Amargh so they believe he was there when he enlisted........not real sure in how to go about finding anything for them they all all in their later years and no real good with computers.

Hi,
This may be nothing but may be worth bearing in mind. On 8 Oct 1911 Thomas Nicholl married Jane Lewers in Armagh Church of Ireland.
