If you give the names of those you are looking for I could try and help.

Not all of the DRC records are indexed yet, so sometimes you have to go through the scans.  Possibly eggsa.org has some tombstones photographed relating to your relatives which could also narrow down the dates.

Thank you.  I'm looking for any records for the Anley family in Cradock.  John Anley went to SA early 1834; he was married to Magdalena Elizabeth Beytell who I think died in 1911.

I have found the birth of a son Jacobus Richard Anley on 1 August 1851.  He was baptised in the Church of the Province of South Africa.

You can see the scan on familysearch under COP Grahamstown and Port Elizabeth, Cradock and Fort Beaufort, St John and St Peter.  Unfortunately I do not have the time to go through them all :( His scan is image 4.

Going on that I do not think they would have been married in the Dutch Reformed Church.

Hope this helps.

Thank you so much for your time and effort you put into doing this search for me; I found the record and have been though the rest of the images but no further Anleys.  This is the right family.  I suppose I thought they may have married in a Dutch reformed Church because John Anley's wife was German - Magdalena Elizabeth Beytell.  There are no records pre 1850, they had another son John James Anley born 1845 - I have his death record.  Thanks again, your help much appreciated.

I found this and wondered if it could be your John Anley.

This relates to the Children's Friend Society and were children sent from England to various countries including South Africa.

Briton - Ship No 07.

Departed from Portsmouth on 28 Oct 1833 and arrived at Cape Town on 5th Jan 1834. Captain Parker.

Yes, this is the John Anley I'm researching - the children were housed in the Brenton Juvenile Asylum in Hackney Wick (London) before being sent to the Cape - I've seen some of their annual reports including one that includes John Anley.  Now I'm also trying to find the records for the asylum to see if i can track down his parents names.  Thank you.
