Like the rest of you, I have found no trace of the marriage OPR on ScotlandsPeople. However, there is an 1855 birth certificate for their son Robert. That certificate claims the marriage to be 1838 (no exact date) in Haddington.

Also given are the parents' ages and birth places; and the number of children born to each (not the same amount), and a count of the children surviving and deceased.

Hi ADP,

Well found, that is interesting that George and Elizabeth had different amounts of children, maybe indicates a previous marriage. 1855 was the first year of Official Registration, and you got a whole lot more information.

On LDS, I found a birth to these parents for a James Beaumont on 1 October 1858 in Hutchesontown in Glasgow. He was born 2 months before his father died, and he died in 1858, there is a death certificate on SP for him, mother's maiden name, Marr, ties in.

Hi Elaine and all,

I have found an interesting entry at National Archives of Scotland, a trial of an Elizabeth Beaumont ms Marr charged with culpable homicide and mistreating of a child, George Paterson of the Pleasance, Edinburgh on 22 July 1853. There is a note after her name that she was not called, so not sure if that means the case was dropped.

However after that they seem to have moved to Glasgow.

 :) Good Morning Tom,

Thank you once again for the latest news of Elizabeth Beaumont ms Marr.  This IŽll definately follow up.
I have gotten quite far with the Beaumonts - a tragic family.  Son George died 2 yrs after his father, also a slater, he fell off a roof.  the daughter Eleanor died after a few yrs of marriage, Robert married late and had no children.  Son John was my gr.grandfather. IŽve searched the family as far as 1980, and am waiting for a death cert. from Scot. People, for Andrew Beaumont, JohnŽs grandson, maybe IŽll still find some living relatives.

Have a nice day,

Eileen

Hello again Tom,

IŽve tried to find the info about Elizabeth Beaumont on the National Archives, but cannot find anything.  Any chance of a hot tip or two? Or can you send me the page you found with the info?

Thanks a million,

Eileen

Hello again Tom,

IŽve just found on the 1851 census that Elizabeth had a 3 yr old lodger called Mary Paterson - possibly the sister of poor wee George?

Hi Elaine,

I will try and guide you to the page on the NAS.

Click on http://www.nas.gov.uk/onlineCatalogue/  then click on "Search"

In "Search for: " box type Elizabeth Beaumont then click on the "Phrase" button. Hit Search, then press "Display Catalogue Results", you should get 3 results, the 1853 one is yours.

Select the reference number, JC26/1853/523.
