Irish Immigration Online searches ??
« on: Monday 12 May 14 22:35 BST (UK) »
Just wondering if there is a online data base for Irish Immigrations available?? I would love it if we could search by surnames ?

So many Irish people immigrated - it is difficult enough to find the right person -If I knew that they immigrated or stayed in Ireland that would be very helpful :)

Does anyone have any ideas where I could find the Immigration??

Thanks
Jila

Do you mean Emigration? ;D
Immigration means coming in to a country; Emigration is leaving a country.

If so, emigration to where?
I don't think there will be records for anyone migrating to the rest of the UK, for example.

There is a database of Irish Emigrants to USA:

Re: Irish Immigration Online searches to USA and Canada??

Hi there,

Thanks for your help :)  Yes I guess I meant Emmigration records. to the USA or Canada.

Alot of people came through Canada not sure why ? Perhaps it was cheaper ??

I am looking for my William & Kate ( Fitzgibbons) Quain- Quain and family I think the came over between 1882-1885 . They were in Rathmore Limerick for the son James' birth  April 1882- he died in Minnesota 16 Oct 1885 - so at least that give me a time frame.

However I cant seem to find the family Emmigrating ?? Can anyone help me ? William Quaid/Quain was born about Jan 1839- 1841 -Croom Limerick ..Parents were William Quain (sr) and Nellie Fitzgerald.

I do not know if William ( sr) and Nellie came over or not??  They also had two daughters Ann (born abt 1830) and Margaret (about 1845) both married Ervin/ Irvin/Irving  brothers and Emmigrated to Minnesota and died there.

Can anyone help me ???

Thanks alot
Jila

Passenger records from the UK (of which Ireland was a part!) only exists from 1890.

So you need to look at US records.
According to that RootsIreland link I gave you, you need to look at www.castlegarden.org for arrivals prior to 1892 and www.ellisisland.org for the time period 1892 to 1924.

The family left Ireland between 1882-1885- Therefore Ellis Island is too late .

Checked Castle Garden - Neg for Quaid & Quain..Tried Quinn several listings- found one possible William in 1883

Will keep looking ..
