Reidy or McCarthy Familes - Kilgarvan
« on: Tuesday 20 August 13 21:13 BST (UK) »
Hi - I am looking for information on either of the Reidy or McCarthy families from Kilgarvan. Winifred Reidy married Daniel McCarthy in the early 1910s. Winifred was a teach in Morley's Bridge School. I would love to know more about either family.

Regards - Oisín

marriage took place in Kenmare Apr June 1914 vol 5 page 167 for both.
parents and siblings for Winifred from Irish Genealogy,
marriage of Patrick Reidy to Mary Sullivan ,Caher,Kilgarvan, 28 July 1875
children
Patrick 13 feb 1876 all born AUGHVANE.
Winifred 23 Feb  1882,
Helen[ELLIE] 21 Jan 1884
Henry[HARRY] 1 July 1891;
Richard 16 oct 1893,
Mary 11 june 1877,
Johanna 27 jan 1880,
Stephen 28 dec 1885,
John 3 feb 1888,

Winifred Reidy can be found in 1901 census as Minnie Reidy[ wrongly transcribed should be Winnie] age 19 in 1 Mangerton,Kilgarvan,

and in 1911 age 28 school teacher as Winifred Reidy at 18 Mangerton, Kilgarvan,Kerry.

you will have to get Daniel and Winifreds marriage cert to proceed further with his line as his name is too common in Kerry, the cert would give his fathers name and address.

this is based on presumption till you get the marriage cert her next door neighbour in 1901 and 1911 is a Daniel McCarthy his parents i think are Daniel McCarthy and Catherine Herlihy as they match some of the children on the census with baptisms in Kilgarvan but i havent found a likely Daniel to match them, however you will find a Daniel McCarthy at no 2 Mangerton in 1901 age 14 and no 17 Mangerton age 22 in 1911. as i say the marriage cert should help you verify this.
