Some families didn't talk about the past or other relatives (especially if they lived far away) and children were not at all encouraged to ask questions so sometimes there are no stories, photos, etc. passed down to the next generation.

What I said on the other topic was to click on 'report to moderator' to get the other one moved to the correct board- you can click on the link and ask for the two threads to be merged (and on Waterford board) to avaoid any more duplication and confusion.

Thank You I agree that is true and more so during the time frame in question as I believe John had a child with an African american woman in the 1900's as she appears in a census as His child but not till she was 14 years Old ..But her maternal family is linked with Him over the years in such forms .. during that time frame it would have been taboo... and from what I can see over the years her facts changed from black to white when she appeared as His Child ...I doubt I shall find any pictured and such but it never hurts to continue searching for the story from the past and to get a feeling of the lives lived long before us ..

A Patrick Upton aged 15 was killed when the Jail wall (only a few yards from Barker Street) fell on houses on 4th March 1943. As this is not a common name in the city he must be a relation. A John Upton was injured also.
