John Smith Tartnakelly
« on: Thursday 21 August 14 15:49 BST (UK) »
I am looking for the marriage of John Smith living at Tartnakelly in 1885 when his daughter Eliza married Robert Hemphill. Griffith's valuation 1858 shows a John Smith, possibly the same man as a tenant in Clagan.

I have found  two possible marriages.  One on 10th February 1852 to Elizabeth Wark, father James Wark and another on 21st Nov 1861 also to Elizabeth Wark, father John Wark.

Any help would be much appreciated.

How do you know that John Smith was living at Tartnakelly in 1885?
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Oops! Just realised I don't!

Eliza's residence was given as Tartnakelly. Her father was a farmer. The couple were married in Magilligan Pres Church so I am probably looking in the wrong area.

I think I may have found the answer to my own question. Eliza was born c 1868. I have found the birth of an Eliza Smith on 1st March 1865, Ballykelly. Parents were John Smith and Margaret Jane Scott.

The first child of Robert Hemphill and Eliza Smith was named Annie Mary Scott Hemphill. Their second child was named Margaret Jane Hemphill.

Many thanks. A John Smyth and Margaret Jane Smyth are buried in Ballykelly Pres graveyard. Possibly the same couple.
