Me again

I've been looking at the Old-Maps site : www.old-maps.co.uk   The various maps are a wee bit confusing. The 1966 one shows the numbers and (with a bit of careful Photoshop-ing) No. 20 seems to be a bit further along than the Google map. The previous map, 1957, only shows houses at the top of the road and the lower ones seem to be still partly woodland and quarry  :-\

I suppose the location of No. 20 might depend on when your friend was born. I think it might be worth her contacting the appropriate RA office to ask about the housing then.

I pass through this area quite often and it is a cluster of houses which I believe were for

army personnel who were attached to Craigiehall nearby.

This has an address:

http://www.army.mod.uk/structure/13937.aspx

but thought it had been disbanded:

Quote
As of April 02, 2012, the Craigiehall HQ was disbanded, per the following messages posted on the Army web site:

Headquarters 2 Div (Craigiehall, Edinburgh) has disbanded as of 2 April 2012 and its Regional Force brigades have been re-subordinated to HQ Support Command (Aldershot).

Headquarters Support Command is now the single 2 star command for providing direction to Regional Force HQs and units although some HQ Sp Comd tasks will continue to be delivered from Craigiehall until at least August 12.

Hi,

It just looks like a very small housing estate -- yes she should be able to walk into

it without any problem -- looks rather nice  they are semi- detached villas .

Hi
A friend of mine is looking to confirm exactly where her birthplace was.
She has the cert which gives address 20 smq Craighiehall South Queensferry West Lothian.
We don't know what the smq stands for but she believes it could have been barracks of some kind as father was in the royal artillery.
Any information gratefully received.
Thanks for reading  :)
