search please - 1863 Death in Rhu
« on: Saturday 10 May 14 14:55 BST (UK) »
Hello everyone

I was hoping someone might be able to find a death/burial record for DAVID BRAND c1863 in Rhu, Dunbarton please?

In 1861, David (age 53, woolmerchant, born Kincardine, Perth) and wife Agnes (age 54) were living in Brand Cottage, James Street, Helensburgh.

Many thanks

One record comes up in Helensburgh 1863 in the parish of Row on Scotlands people for David Brand ..He is most likely to be buried at Helensburgh Cemetery next time I am down I will have a look and see if I can spot anything that's if there is a stone ? Did his wife move to England living with a daughter Euphemia ? :)

Hi Rosie,

Yes, that sounds like him as his wife Agnes did move to England with daughter Euphemia.
If you could check the cemetery that would be wonderful.
Many thanks.

Hi Rosie,

I have the Brand families and descendants in most census. I have Alex age 15, bricklayer in 1861 at James Street, Brand Cottage, Helensburgh with the rest of the family but lost him after that.

I'm descended from David, and his son David, and his son David, and then his son David..... who came to Oz.

Do you have any info on Alex? I would be thrilled if you did.

I did have a look round but did not see any grave stones for Brand maybe he was buried some where else  or they never had a stone ....Next time I am in the library I will check if they still have a book of burials in Helensburgh Cemetery I know they did have but a lot of records have been moved ..I did take a few photo's of the area where burials took place in 1863 did try to send you attachment but could not ...If you would like these pictures you can P M me your e-mail address :) :)

Have you looked on Scotland's People www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk? It's pay-per-view, but modestly priced, and you can download instantly a digital image of the original death certificate.
Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.

Scotland's people don't think it will tell you where he is buried the only other cemetery nearby would be Rhu ( Row )
