King family Scotland to Cumberland?

This is very much a long shot.  My Great Great Grandfather was William Alkin King - born, lived, married, had a family, worked and Died in Whitehaven. His Father was born in Whitehaven but, I don't know where his Grandfather came from. He was Michael King. Born circa 1713, married Ann Alkin at Whitehaven in 1752. I can't get any thing else on him and it's made even more difficult when a publication listing Cumberland names does not include KING. It has to therefore be assumed that he was born elsewhere and where best to start that just over the border in Scotland where I know a lot of Kings lived.
