Missing Davison Family
« on: Wednesday 19 March 14 14:15 GMT (UK) »
Hi All,

I wonder if someone can find this family (or any trace of them) on any census!

William Davison married Margaret Hutchinson in Sunderland on the 1st August 1841 (details from parish record that, unfortunately do not provide any other detail apart from the fact that William was widowed).
They appear to have had three children prior to 1851; William Hutchinson Davison born on the 21st March 1844, Edward Hutchinson Davison, born on the 14th December 1845 (dying on the 10th September 1846), and Jane, born during the September quarter of 1848.

When Jane married Michael Gettins in Sunderland 1864 she named her father as William Davison (pilot).

I cannot find any trace of the family in 1851 or 1861 - can anybody help find them?

Sue

Is this the family? 10, Warren Street, Sunderland
DAVISON, William    Head    Married   M    54    1797    Pilot
DAVISON, Margaret    Wife    Married   F    44    1807 Morpeth, Northumberland
Jane born 1848 is not listed with the family, but a Jane Ann born 1835 is.

Hi Stan,

It could possibly be, finding him in 1841 may hold the key as it looks as though the elder children, John and Jane Ann, were products of an earlier marriage, whilst the younger three maybe of his second marriage.

However, worried that there is no sign of Jane, who gave her address as 48 South Durham Street in 1864, whilst her 'parents' where still living in Warren Street in 1861 (and still no sign of her).
It is also strange that two children William and Edward were born to 'my' couple in 1844 and 1845, whilst this Davison family had a son, Martin Hutchinson Davison, born during the March quarter of 1844 - virtually the same time.

AS you say in 1861 that family was still living at  10, Warren Street, Sunderland. There is a William Davison, Pilot, age 35, a widower and boarder, living at 26, Warren Street, with a daughter Mary Ellen, born 1855.

Hi Stan,

He might be a possibility, although obviously he wouldn't be the same widowed William who married Margaret Hutchinson in 1841, but he may be worth looking in to.
Still no sign of Jane though!!
