McQuillan family of Silksworth, Durham.
« on: Thursday 03 April 14 23:46 BST (UK) »
Hi. I was hoping that someone may be able to help me locate information on the McQuillan Family of Silksworth, Durham.

James McQuillan married Margaret Kelly at Sunderland in the December Quarter of 1891.

I have found the following two records on the Family Search site which I believe to be their children

Gulielmus Mc Quillan   Male
Christening Date   01 Jul 1893
Christening Place   St. Leonard, Silksworth, Durham, England
Birth Date   13 Jun 1893
Father Jacobi Mc Quillan
Mother's Name   Margaritae Kelly Mc Quillan

Anna Mc Quillan (ANNIE)
Gender   Female
Christening Date   31 Oct 1896
Christening Place   St. Leonard, Silksworth, Durham, England
Birth Date   11 Oct 1896
Father's Name   Jacobi Mc Quillan
Mother's Name   Margaritae Kelly Mc Quillan

and these sadly are the only records I can find of this family ???
Any help would as always be very much appreciated  :)

hi ,
just had a quick look for a census and couldn't find anything.
I can see your dilemma, just hope someone else is more successful.
good luck with your search

Hello Erin,

do you have details for James and Margaret from earlier censuses (or later)?

There is a family with children of the same name at 1901 4717/ 65/ 59
James and Margaret Baird with children William 7 yrs and Annie 4 yrs both born Silksworth.
The family are living in Ryhope witha brother William Baird- who does show in 1891  :-\

Could they have emigrated?

heywood

Hi Taffie and thank you for your search. I do think I may be on the right track now thank you to Heywoods help.

Hi Heywood and thank you very much for the Baird link.
I had looked at this family but after you post delved a little further and my findings are interest and rather confusing.

I have found a James Baird Jr who fits in perfectly with James McQuillan.
I have also found the parents of James Bird Jr who were called James and Anne/Annie and who seem to have separated between the 1871 and 1881 census. After this time the census show James snr living with a lady called Margaret and a number of children and Anne/Annie living with a gent called James McQuillan with whom she had a daughter. James Baird Jr is living with his mother and stepfather (if indeed they did marry)
Is this James Baird Jr the same James who married under the name of McQuillan? It well could be but
I do need to do a lot more researching.
Going to be a busy evening  :D
