Llanllyfni Cemeteries
« on: Friday 28 February 14 20:43 GMT (UK) »
Hi,

I'm trying to trace a burial for Rees Evans of Wellington House, Llanllyfni - died 25th November 1925 aged 86/87? From this I hope to find the death of his wife, Mary - born abt 1840, died between the 1911 census and Rees' death in 1925. (anyone know where Wellington House was - Rhedyw Road?)

Diolch.

Hi Alan,

I have the Gwynedd Family History Society booklet for Salem Chapel, Llanllyfni. Entries as follows -

Plot 1221 - Rhys Evans of Wellington - Nov 15 1925 age 87 and separately -

Plot 1157 - Mary Evans of Wellington  - Oct 31 1916 age 77.

There are other entries both for Wellington and Wellington House - if you need me to look for other names, just let me know.

Hi Alan,

Thanks for the quick response. The dates fit, but not sure why they are buried in seperate graves? - they were from Ffestiniog originally. I met with my aunt on the weekend and she confirmed they were members of Salem chapel. I had them in the 1911 census living in Rhedwyr Road Llanllyfni with their daughter Mary Ellen. The probate records show in 1925 she was still living in Wellington (House?) and had married a William Jones.

I would be grateful for any more info you've got on Wellington. There were 8 children of the marriage in total - Dorothy (1885), Evan D (1866), Gwen L (1872), Margaret (1874), Robert (1877), David R (1882), Mary Ellen (1884) and my grea great grandmother Alice (1869) - she moved down to the Rhondda and is buried in Trealaw cemetery!

Diolch i chi,

Alan

Hi Alan,

There is no one else buried in each plot - from the book this seems to be the normal practice at this Chapel.

The only other entry for Wellington are for Grave 1372 - William Jones buried in 1949 - age 62 - no death date shown.

At Wellington House the entries are -
1885 - Grave 567 - John Williams - age 38
1891 - Grave 733 - John Williams - age 79
1894 - Grave 790 - Mary Williams - age 72
1903 - Grave 1012 - Catherine Williams - age 44
1979 - Grave 1388 - Miss Catherine Griffith (Ashes) - No age shown

Must go out now but I will have a look later for other names

Alan

Hi Alan,

Just had a look for the other names - I'm afraid there is no sign of any of them at Salem Chapel.
