Leary or Lary in Mullingar
« on: Friday 19 July 13 10:11 BST (UK) »
My Great Great Grandmother, Margaret Leary (or Lary perhaps) is shown in the England Censuses as being born around 1839 in Mullingar. On her marriage certificate (1861) her father is shown to be a Michael Leary, Tobacco Manufacturer, deceased.

I cannot find any other information for this family. Can anyone help?

Hello and welcome  :)

Where was the marriage?
Are there any other Leary in the area who may be related?

regards

Hi

She was married in Wigan, Lancs in 1861.
There was a James Leary (or Lary) living with them on the 1871 England Census in Wigan, who I suspect is Margaret's nephew. He was born in Wigan.

I think his father was also James, born in "Ireland" according to the census abt 1838, who married a Margaret Shean or Shean in Lancashire in 1860.

Michael Larey is a soldier on this marriage certificate which may help your search. This may also account for Margaret's birthplace.
