Help, confused, Bain, Bremner
« on: Friday 01 November 13 10:40 GMT (UK) »
Hi having hit all my brick walls I thought i'd have another shot at my Bain family' Margaret Bain married Roderick Ross 1854 Wick, her Father Donald Bain deceased, I have never found a birth entry for Margaret, so from freecen I have Roderick and Margaret in 1861 living Wick Margaret age 30 in 1871 she is said to be 38 then I purchased from scotlandspeople Margaret's death certificate , she died age 64 in 1898 at Halkirk, so far so good, her parents are given as Donald Bain and Isobel ms Bremner, I  have found a marriage for Donald Bain and Isobel Bremner 1821 Wick, I have the registration from SP and Isobel's Father is given as James Bremner, occ' farmer in Thrumster, Donald Bain in Sarclet then I'm not sure if the last 2 people are witnesses but one is James Bremner and the other Donald Bain and I think cooper in Sarclet, so then I looked at the Bremner family site on line and they have Isobel marrying Donald the same as mine but no children found to this marriage and Donald occ' fisher, Isobel marries again, I can't find any good matches for any of these on FreeCEN, I should add there's a birth for a James Bain 1823 Wick to these parents on SP, any help most appreciated. HI Trish , thanks for the reply, I know where Sarclet and Thrumster are but I may have confused the issue by giving too much info'. I Looked at Brebner? Bremner site and found 2 possible Isobel Bremner's one on the site they say never married the other married twice first to Donald Bain in 1821 this is the one I have the registration for and there is a birth of James in 1823 for this couple. I know Donald died before Margaret and Roderick married in 1854 so it's possible Isobel married for a second time. However The Bremner site says there was no children to this marriage. I have now found on freeCEN in 1841 at Thrumster Isabell age 35, Margt 13 Jane 11,Donald 10, all Bain and William Oag 5 and John Mckay 5 mths. Bremner site says Isobel married William Oag so this is a possibility, and it looks like James Bain age 15, is living down the road with his Grandparents in 1841 census, Kind regards Nikitah

I'm about to sign of also.

1861 Census
Isabella Bain, 56
William Oag, 23
John Mckay,  17

Could this be them in 1851?

1851 Census
Stirkoke, Wick, Caithness
Isabella Bremner, 48, Ag Lab, born Wick
Margaret Bremner, 23, Daug, Ag Lab, born Pulseneytown
John Bremner, 9, Son, born Thumbster
Jean Bremner, 21, Ag Lab, born Pulseneytown

Jean could be Jane from 1841 Census.

Thanks Trish, I think you've cracked it. Now I know to go down the Margaret Rosie line, although I've been back to look at the Brebner/Bremner site and there are no children to Isobel and Donald Bain and just one son, William to her second marriage to William Oag, looks like I've more searching to do on SP. Many thanks for your help , Nikitah

1881 Isabella Bain is born c 1803 Wick, down as Mother in Law (I cant look at image to see what it says actually). With Wm Oag and Wife Jane and Family. Wm Oag born c 1838 Wick

1871 they are under CAG, William Cag born c 1837 Wick, Isabella Bremner c 1806 Wick, Mother.

So she may have died between 1881-1891

Good luck :)
