Archibald Farish
« on: Wednesday 16 July 14 09:55 BST (UK) »
Hi!
Can anyone help with the following?

I have a Joseph Farish (sometimes surname spelt many different ways - Fairish, Faris, Fariss, Fairies etc), marrying at Bridekirk Cumberland on 13 March 1794 Ann Ravel. A witness to the wedding was an Archibald Farish.

Joseph Farish was the son of a James Farish who married Jane Fawcet at Bridekirk Cumberland on 27 May 1754, and he was baptised on 21 August 1768 at Bridekirk. Joseph Farish also had the following siblings:

Mary Farish baptised 22 December 1754 Bridekirk Cumberland

Jonathan Farish baptised 7 July 1757 Bridekirk Cumberland

William Farish baptised 10 June 1759 Bridekirk Cumberland

John Farish baptised 31 January 1762 Bridekirk Cumberland

I think James Farish (father of Joseph) and Archibald Farish may have been brothers? James Farish is listed as being buried at Bridekirk Cumberland in 1789.

Archibald Farish married on 10 August 1775 at Crosscanonby Cumberland Sarah Grear and had the following children:

Robert Faris baptised 15 August 1778 Workington Cumberland (Presbyterian)

Archibald Farish baptised 9 June 1780 Workington Cumberland (Presbyterian)

Mary Farish baptised 14 April 1782 Workngton Cumberland (Presbyterian)

Sarah Farris baptised 2 July 1786 Workington Cumberland (Presbyterian)

The only records I can find for Archibald and James are in Dumfries? There is an Archbald Fairiss baptised on 8 May 1729 at Dumfries, son of John, and also a James Farries baptised 7 November 1725 at Dumfries, again son of John.

Any help with any of the above much appreciated! :D

There is this reference to a christening of Archibald son of Archibald & Sarah on familysearch with the opportunity to view the record on another site.

Non conformist records sometimes give details of the parents fathers.  :-\

I see Archibald jnr died in 1792 so it was not him that was the witness

Hi!
Thanks for your reply. I have checked some records for Bridekirk Cumberland and found the following:

James Fairish (Farish) of Great Broughton, buried April 9th 1787 aged 59, (born 1728?).

Jane Fairish, wife of James Fairish of Great Broughton, buried 1782 aged 58, (born 1723)

Ann Fairish, daughter of James Fairish of Great Broughton, buried 28 June 1766 (no age given)

Jonathan Fairish, son of James Fairish of Great Broughton, buried 10 May 1758

Also at Bridekirk is the following:

Robert Fairish of Great Broughton, buried 22 April 1788 aged 90

Mary Fairish, widow of the late Robert Fairish of Great Broughton, buried 8 August 1778 aged 70

Barbara Fairish of Great Broughton, Spinster, buried 4 December 1782 aged 34

John Fairish of Great Broughton buried 21 April 1782 aged 28

Not sure if how (at all ) they are connected.
