Caroline Silvester, baptised 1814 then disappears ...
« on: Monday 14 April 14 14:33 BST (UK) »
Hi

On 21 April 1814, Caroline Silvester and her twin sister Emely were baptised at Cleeve Prior.  [Parish register says "twin daughters of John and Mary Silvester"]

Emely/Emmeline (various spellings) goes on to marry and have children, before dying in 1894, so that's her sorted!

When I was at The Hive last year I checked the volumes of Worcs marriages and Caroline's not there (as Silvester/Sylvester or any other variation that I could see).  I also checked the burial register for Cleeve Prior, but she's not there either.

There is a Caroline Silvester born about the same time in Edgbaston, Birmingham, but she seems to be one of a family of spinster sisters, not "my" Caroline.

Does anyone have any ideas what happened to her, or where I might try next?

Thanks

I rather think that it's of the Caroline Silvester who was bap. in Ripple in 1823, so most likely not the one I'm after.

You are right - I can see her in 1851, younger than the one you are after

A bit of a long shot but there is a marriage 11 July 1831 to John Roberts at St. Philip, Birmingham, Warwick, England

https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/NJHY-J5J

I know this would have made her only 17 but assuming its the same John & Caroline then in 1841 they seem to be in Badsey, Worcestershire.  Caroline's age is given as 25 and John's as 35 and  have four children with them: Richard (9), Ellen (8 ) John (5) and Sarah (1)
MORGAN: Glamorgan, Durham, Ohio. DAVIS/DAVIES/DAVID: Glamorgan, Ohio.  GIBSON: Leicestershire, Durham, North Yorkshire.  RAIN/RAINE: Cumberland.  TAYLOR: North Yorks. BOURDAS: North Yorks. JEFFREYS: Worcestershire & Northumberland. FORBES: Berwickshire, CHEESMOND: Durham/Northumberland. WINTER: Durham/Northumberland. SNOWBALL: Durham.

I had just seen it, but not had chance to pursue it further.  However, now that I have I see a treasure trove of things, particularly because the Badsey PRs are online:

1.  In 1851, John Roberts is a widower in Badsey, and in 1849 there's a burial there of a 35yo Caroline Roberts, which would make her b. 1814.

2.  Ellen (daughter of Caroline and John) marries George Hemming.  George's mother is Caroline's twin sister Emely/Emmeline, so this is cousins marrying.  Can't find any children for George and Ellen, but they do raise an illegitimate son of one of George's sisters.

Suddenly, all is well with the world!

Thank you SO much!  Happy  ;D  Happy  ;D  Happy  ;D

You made me laugh then:  first cousin's marrying + an illegitimate child or two = happiness  !!

I know what you mean though - we're a weird bunch :)
