Hi, thanks for the reply, I have the Census details and birth/marriage/death together with both their Cricketing careers.......would love to find a photograph but perhaps that's a bit too much to expect. I have tied up most of the children with the exception of Bennett Mycroft. I was hoping if anyone else was researching Mycroft they may have some more details about them.

I am looking into the Mycroft Family. If you Google the name mycroft and cricket you should get to the wikapedia site on which there is some blurb on both William and Thomas. I believe my daughter in law is directly descended from William.
How far have you gone back? Have you got beyond George Mycroft bn abt 1812?

Newspaper photograph Tom Mycroft..........I have only gone to George Mycroft 1812

Attached shows George's parents. You will see where the Bennett name comes from.
As Brimington had no church prior til about 1814 finding a Baptism entry for either George or William has not been sucessful. They are not at Norton or Chesterfield. Do let me knowif you have more sucess.
I thought that Billy Mycock Bapt 1782/3 maybe a match but he turns out to be a definate Mycock.
Many thanks for your posting, Simon

Dear Verity,
attached is a picture of William Mycroft? From a booklet called 'Backward Glances' an early album of Cricket photographs 1857 - 1917 by Stephen Green.

Mog.

Mog......Wow! thanks ever so much..........

Hi Verity
There is a strong family resemblance don't you think ?
It was my husband who found this - he is a staunch cricketing fan
I mentioned the name Mycroft and he was on to the case
Would you like me to PM a better res scan if possible ?#

Well William Mycroft certainly looks a bit worse for weather but thankyou for the posting as he is directly related to my daughter in law.
Any other snaps you come across would be most welcome.
Many thanks
Simon

-
Hi Verity
Glad you liked it
Yes will need an email address
Will PM you
Was William a miner ? They often finished a shift and were actually black from head to toe, had no time to take a bath so washed their hands and faces and then played cricket !
-
From Census and Internet, Ironstone Miner, Inn-Keeeper, Professional Cricketer/Ground Staff and Umpire at Lords..........maybe he was just having a bad day.........
It doesn't explain why I like Cricket.........especially 20/20 but there is just no accounting for taste
Thanks for the reply
Regards
Margaret

I am very interested in any information about the Mycroft family especially around the time of the second world war or possibly a link with a Harriet Mycroft from what might be the early 1900s.
If anyone has any information and whether they are related to the cricketers, that would be wonderful!

Hello Haltest,
My son married a Mycroft descended from William Mycroft the cricketer/ miner. I have traced his tree back to William born 1783 who married Elizabeth Bennett but then I have hit a brick wall.
Can you tell me where Harriet fits in as I have not yet come across her.
Regards Simon

I think I might be descended from the other cricketing brother, Thomas Mycroft but I am trying to see if this is true or just family conjecture!

Hello,
I am Fred Mycroft, greatgrandson of William Mycroft Through his son Harry & his son Harry.
First time I have seen a pic of Thomas, my youngest son looks quite like him.
I am looking at the cricket photo and wondering if William might be misidentified, looking at the caption one would expect William to be on the end.
I however believe he is the second from the viewers right based on a photo obtained from an article on William and Derbyshire cricket in association to Sir Authur Conan Doyle. Refer to the following.
