Can anyone help Terence Timons
« on: Friday 21 November 14 05:07 GMT (UK) »
This is all I can find about my Grandfathers service in WW1, Can anyone decipher it for me. I know that he was in the Royal Liverpool 8th batallion and he was injured in the arm/hand at some time in the war. But I would like to know if he won any medals and how and where he got his injuriy.

Thanks

He was Kings Liverpool Regiment not Royal Liverpool.

London Gazette -

There's a mention in the 8 Feb 1918 edition under the surname "Timons".

A correction was issued in the 22 March 1918 edition under the surname "Timmons"

Doesn't answer your specific questions.

The card you have is his SWB index card - the actual roll entry is as follows:

2nd Lieut. Timmons, T. King's Liverpool Regiment
Badge Number 291216
Address: Fordstown Kells, Co. Meath, Ireland

No other information on the Roll entry.

There would not appear to be any other medal card - so he may well not have served abroad, possibly he fell sick in the UK and was subsequently discharged. His file - if it is his - at the NA should help resolve the question.

2/Lt T Timmons
8th KLR
Silver War Badge
Listed as 2/Lt in 1917 Army List with date of 1st March 1917 (surname shown as TIMONS).
Reported wounded in a list published 30th June 1917, suggesting overseas service, but can’t see any mention of this wounding in the diary going back as far as April.

Will have a closer look over the weekend

He would have thought himself as being in the Liverpool Irish

8th Battalion KLR was subtitled 'Liverpool Irish', and was a Territorial unit pre-war.  Many but not all its members had Irish connections, but from what has been posted here it does not look as though your man was a pre-war member.
