John Delver Wilson Edinburgh & London - Same person???

Hi All,

I am trying to establish if John Delver Wilson who married Margaret Grieve in Edinburgh in 1828 is the same John Delver Wilson that is the father of several children christened in London 1836-1843. The mothers name on the christening is also Margaret.

I know that John Delver Wilson married Margaret Grieves in Edinburgh in 1828 and had at least one child in Edinburgh, Joseph Wilson in 1832, then the trail goes cold. Could the London John Delver Wilson with wife Margaret be one and the same??? How could I go about proving (or disproving) this?

When was John Delver Wilson born and where?  Any idea what his occupation was?

If children were born up to 1843 the family should be on the 1841 census somewhere - London most likely if later children born there.

Hi,

I have limited information I am afraid. On his marriage record it stated his occupation as 'workman' so not that helpful. He was living in St Andrews parish, Edinburgh on point of marriage but place of birth and age not stated. The marriage took place in 1828 so can get a vague birth range from that.  I believe that Margaret Grieves is Scottish but have no firm information on whether John Delver Wilson is English/Scottish/other.

Their Edinburgh son is Joseph Wilson born in 1832 in Edinburgh.
