Can Anyone Help - Thomas EDWARDS and Mary WOOD
« on: Monday 25 August 14 11:28 BST (UK) »
Can someone please help me try to find my 3rd Great Grandmother?

Mary Wood, b 1823 daughter of Thomas Wood (Iron Moulder) & Mary Lloyd.
Mary Married Henry Wynn Crawford (My 3rd Great Grandfather) 14th August 1843, St Oswald's in Chester.
1851 Census they are living in Chester
1861 Census they are living in Liverpool
6th December Henry Wynne Crawford died.
1st March 1870 Mary marries a Thomas Edwards (Unsure of DOB as Full age on Marriage Record) Thomas is a Widower and a Laborer. He is the son of a Richard Edwards (Joiner).
1871 Census all of Mary's Children are accounted for either themselves Married (The older ones anyway) And the younger ones were either Lodgers or Servants.

I have searched High an low on other census's from 1871 without success. I have even come across one or two that are close living in either Bebbington or Runcorn but these are not correct the ones.

Mary and Thomas just disappear after their Marriage. I have been searching for them now for nearly 4 years. Mary also had a Sister called Harriet Wood (b 1831) She disappears after the 1851 census. If any one can help I would love to know who this Thomas Edwards was and what happened to Them and Harriet.

I thank you for your time.

Liam Crawford.

Have you looked for their deaths?  Not a cheery thought but maybe they passed away before the next census  :-\

Well there are deaths in Liverpool in 1870 but with common names can't tell if it is your couple or not.

Mary Edwards Jun 1870 age 47
Thomas Edwards Jun 1870 age 40 - I realise we don't know how old your Thomas was

If she was 20 in 1851 there's a good chance she married between 1851-1861 and will be under her married name.

Where was she born please?

Hello Thank you. I will look into the 2 deaths mentioned in 1870 but I have a feeling I tried that a few years a go already. But will look into it again.

As to Harriett Wood she to was born in Chester. I have been unable to find any marriages but did find a Harriett Wood in the 1881 and 1891 Census's in the workhouse in Chester also a Spinster and ordered her death Certificate as he died in 1897. But to my disappointment she was the Daughter of a James Woods and not Henry Wood.

I did notice on the marriage for Mary father is down as Thomas Woods not Wood so best to check under both spellings.

On the death you have for Harriet how do you know who her father was?  Was he the informant?

The informant was a Robert Turner (Master of the workhouse) She may have given her fathers name when she went into the workhouse as a next of kin.

Hello. I just come across 2 burial records for a Mary Edwards and Thomas Edwards both in 1870, both in the workhouse and buried 2 days apart from each other. This is the 2 people whose deaths you mentioned earlier. I will order the death certificate for this Mary Edwards to see if she is my ancestor.
Thank you very much and I will post as soon as I get it.

Thanks
Liam Crawford
