Elsie Shaw
« on: Wednesday 10 September 14 17:41 BST (UK) »
Hi, I'm trying to find Elsie Shaw who according to her death certificate was born in South Elmsall 29/10/1907, she married George Whitehall sep qtr 1930 in Hemsworth, she died 17/05/1991 in Deal Kent.
Cannot find anything that would suggest it was her birth.

Can anyone help please?

Sammy.

Have you looked for her on the 1911 census?

What was her fathers name on her 1930 marriage cert?

There are several names on the 1911 census that would fit, but as Carole says you probably need to get the marriage certificate to ensure that you have the correct family. We are not allowed to give information from the 1911, but you can search using the free search. http://www.1911census.co.uk/

Hi,
Yes I've looked in the 1911 census and have found nobody that fits, not even anyone called Elsie without the Shaw surname.

Her father on the marriage cert was Thomas Shaw it says deceased and no occupation, I do know she ended up living with a step father from a young age, but I also have no idea who her mother was, she's a mystery.

Also the witnesses at the wedding on the cert give no indication either.

Sammy.

There are only 3 births in the December qtr 1907 which don't have any middle christian name.  South Elmsall came under Hemsworth in 1907 (previously Pontefract) but there is no corresponding birth reg in that RD

Do none of her children have a copy of her birth cert?

No they have no copy of a birth certificate. She refused to speak about her past, so none of her children know anything about her, and sadly the one son who did inform on her death, has now passed away also. I know she married in South Elmsall and her husband George Whitehall was born in South Elmsall, so the place of birth on the death certificate may have been a guess, I'm really not sure.
There was also never any mention from her of any siblings.
Sammy.
