RAF - Military number help!

Hey everyone, i'm researching my fathers ancestry, and as i never met them, and he hasn't spoken to anyone in the last 50 years (hes 68 now) I am struggling slightly with a few details.

On my Dads birth certificate under the fathers occupation part, it has a RAF LAC military number, and I have run out on ideas on where to find his military record. My Dad was always told her was a aircraftsman, I've tried googling the number to no avail, and I've searched through all the military records on ancestry. co.uk. He was from Wales but we believe was living in london at the time of joining the RAF.

His record is still with MOD unfortunately you will need permission from him,or next of kin or his death cert.As he is still alive you may struggle to get access due to data protection

Oh sorry, he is dead! He died in 1988 and his wife and mistress are both dead, I'm not sure which one would of been the next of kin. If i can get hold of a death certificate would i then be allowed his record, and is the same as everything else where you have to pay for it?
