Hi

I wondered if anyone knows if Brynffynon is a house or street in Tanygrisiau and if so if it still exists today?

Thankyou for reading this,

Hello

I imagine that it was an individual building or Farmhouse as in 1841 Farmer Evan Owen age 75 lived there with Owen Evan age 25 a Joiner and Mary Evan age 20 (remember ages were rounded down).

An address search of the 1901 Census shows that John E Jones, M.D, JP, Dl, age 72, is still living at Brynffynon, Dolgelley with daughter Ada and 2 servants.

Can't find Brynffynon in the 1911 Census using the address search.

Hi

Speaking to my cousin last night who informed me her daughter now lives in Tanygrisiau.!!  I will phone her and ask her to find out for you.

It might take a little while, but you never know.  I shall be away for a long weekend, but we might be pleasantly surprised.

Hi
Asked a member of Gwynedd Archives staff who is from the Ffestiniog area. There was a small row of houses of that name in Tanygrisiau that have been knocked down. He showed me on a map where they were. He also looked up the 1881 Census and in that there were 5 dwellings under that heading, all occupied by quarrymen. It's quite possible that there had been, or that there still was in 1881, a farm of that name in the same area. I was in a hurry and didn't have time to ask more; also I wasn't sure if I'd got the name of the place right. I'll have another word with him.
