Hi
Was at GRO recently searching for an Archibald Barr who died around 1884, in Killykerrigan (I think I spelt that right)when I asked to see the record they didnt have it and I was told that it might be in Dublin is this possible so far north.

Do you perhaps mean you were looking for Will of Archibald Barr in PRONI? It is quite possible that Archibald Barrs Will or administration of his estate was done through the Dublin Registry Office and in that case PRONI would not have the details.
Archibald Barr lived at Killykergan in Aghadowey Parish. I know of 4 of his children: Mary (m. James Elder), Eliza (m. Andrew McAlister), William (m.Hannah McGoogan) and Archibald (m. Mary Chestnut), although there could be others.
Would be interested in date of Archibald's death. Do you happen to know his wife's name? (the marriage took place before civil registration and if they were married in St. Guaire's Parish Church the records don't go back any further).

A widow Nancy Barr (age 80) was living at Killykergan in 1901. Sounds like this could be the same Nancy Barr.
Have a baptism for a John Barr in 1866 but father is listed as James Barr of Killykergan (could this be a mistake and father was Archibald?- have no other records for a James Barr around this time in Killykergan).

Hi
My John was born either 1843 or 1851 as both census give diff ages. He was married in 1869 giving his age as full and his fathers name at time of marriage was Archibald.  Is it possible for the record to be held in Dublin and how do I apply for it.

Sounds as though perhaps 'your' John Barr was a brother to Mary, Eliza, Willie and Archie and that their parents were Archibald and Nancy (and that the 1866 baptism for John Barr isn't him).
